Marguerite Hubert Emanuel, 83 passed away peacefully on June 11, 2017 after a very brief illness. Marguerite's family and friends knew her for her boundless energy, talkative nature, and involvement in many local community organizations and groups.

Marguerite was born in Mankato, MN on June 25th, 1933, and grew up in Duluth on Minneapolis Ave. She was always very proud of being in the first graduating class from the new Duluth East High School in 1951 as class salutatorian. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota, Duluth (UMD) graduating with a degree in teaching.

Married to Karl Emanuel they had five children together, Deborah Norgard (Eric Irwin), Elizabeth "Betsy" Gamble (Jim), and Karl Emanuel (Karen), as well as two twin infant boys who passed at birth, Karl and David. Her grandchildren are Christine Seibert (Matthew), Amy Norgard, David Norgard, Joseph Gamble, and Avery & Vivian Emanuel, as well as great-granddaughter Samantha Seibert.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Marguerite is survived by her sisters Jeanne Sederberg (Robert) and Elizabeth Anderson, and brother Joseph Hubert, Jr, as well as many nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews that she adored. In addition to her family, she touched the lives of her many friends. Becky Hall will be reflecting on these relationships at Marguerite's memorial.

Marguerite is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Alma Hubert, her sister Wanda Hubert Benson, as well as her two twin infant sons.

During her time living in Duluth, Marguerite was involved with the Duluth Symphony Orchestra, the Junior League of Duluth, and the Duluth Women's Club. She loved learning, and attended many classes at UMD in their Senior College, making many friends of the professors and students. She also hosted annual reunions with members of her East High School classmates. Marguerite was a member of Duluth Congregational Church in Lakeside. Marguerite was also involved with the Junior League, and was named "Sustainer of the Year" in 2007. She favored conservatism and we think she voted the Republican ticket throughout her life.

Marguerite enjoyed music immensely. She sang soprano at church, and played piano her entire life. She taught students, and played at the Union Gospel during dinner service. Marguerite also loved golf and tennis. She had her only hole in one on May 13th, 1975, at Lake Bluff Golf Course, hole 13, 131 yards. Marguerite played tennis as a youth, and played into her late 70's.

For years Marguerite lived in a beautiful apartment with a sweeping view of Lake Superior. She loved watching the every changing Lake as well as the various oar boats that came and went from Duluth Harbor. She knew nearly every boat by name!

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 15, at 10:00 a.m., at Duluth Congregational Church, 3833 East Superior Street, Duluth. Reception will be held immediately after the service at Northland Country Club, 3901 E Superior Street from 11-2pm. A private interment at Forest Hill Cemetery will follow for immediate family.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Animal Allie Humane Society, 4006 Airport Road, Duluth, MN 55811 or www.animalallies.net. Marguerite loved all animals, and knew all the "puppadogs" in the neighborhoods where she walked.
